Welcome to ABC Pilsen
ABC Pilsen began with a dad who wanted to help his 2 kids develop their basketball skills.
Today, this weekly program serves over 100 kids from Pilsen and nearby communities. Located on the West Side of Chicago, Pilsen is a community rich with Latino art, music, food, and community. However, the community still experiences poverty and gang violence every day. Over one-third of its families live below poverty level and two-thirds of its members drop out of school. For the past 7 years, ABC Pilsen has made a positive impact on Pilsen’s youth by teaching them teamwork, confidence, and leadership skills through basketball. This helps kids keep focus, stay motivated, and have a place safe to play in the neighborhood.
ABC Pilsen is known for building from any skill level to a competitive level. With our organized tournaments, kids showcase everything they learned throughout the program. Since the program started, we have expanded to include academic enrichment programs for our kids. We adopted our slogan “Athletics through Academics” to reinforce that lessons learned on the court go beyond the court.
By emphasizing academics along with basketball, we provide our children with a set of skills that improves their self-esteem, family dynamics, and ability to make good choices for their future. We’re truly a testament that basketball fundamentals go hand-in-hand with self and social responsibility.
